New things

I haven't posted any creations in a while but I definitly have been a little busy bee. I promise. Craft has taken over my life in the last few weeks and there has been little time for internet. Hoping to post more soon but heres 2 shapeless dresses I have made. Im loving them for winter cos theyre so comfy to wear with a warm pair of tights and a belt. Depending on my mood, I wear them with some round toe heels or my comfy flat boots.

here goes...

Thank yous go out to the talented Tania for the photos and Jodique salon for the nails.

Pretty Pictures

I have some photos to share.

My twin dear friend Delia agreed to letting me get all up in her pretty face with my camera so I could take some photos of some garments that I have been working on lately.

Theres actually only two items that I made in these photos but Delia looks so beautiful in these that I have decided to put many on.

I made the pink top to inject some colour into my dark winter wardrobe. Not sure what inspired the design. I didnt really put much pre-thought into it but it all came together at the end of the night. Got the fabric from Global Fabrics.

The second item I made is a winter coat as it is definitly a need for these cold days that are creeping in.

good times!

Bat - man- shirt?

I wanted a new shirt but i wanted it big and comfy as if i had thrown on one of my boyfriends shirts for the day. I would have to say that i am quite inspired by Audrey Hepburn wearing the mens shirt in Breakfast at Tiffanys. I designed it so it looks like a mens shirt but is slimmer and has 3/4 cuffed sleeves so its a bit more feminine and cut the sleeves so theyre bat like.

Excuse the wrinkles. The photos were taken in the afternoon after a good day of wearing. Photos were also taken by my talented friend Julia.

Last Minute Dress

I was privillaged to attend a friends wedding this weekend. Being my usual self I left making my dress untill the last minute. I started making the pattern for it in the spare time i had between work, making final fitting adjustments to the brides dress and bed time three days before the big day. Luckily i managed to scrape through and finnish it in time to wear it. Phewf! I cant remember what fabric it is made from exactly but it is nice and heavy so it flows nicely and is a little bit sheer.

Sevens Weekend

This weekend I was lucky enough to be given some free sevens tickets from a friend. However, it was the night before and I didnt have a costume. I was sure that most costume shops would be well rinsed due to the popularity of the occaision to dress up. So at 10.30pm off i went, searching the house for anything i could muster an outfit out of.

I managed to find a red wig and a bunch of green fabric and instantly thought of Poison Ivy. I wanted it to look cute but i also didnt want it to be they type of costume that doesnt cover alot. So with that in mind i decided to encorporate shorts as i figured they would cover more.

I woke up early on the Saturday morning and realised that i needed an outfit before lunch time. So to the craft room i went, sewing like a mad woman. After it was complete it was time for some make up ideas.
I tuned into youtube and watched Kandee the make up artists tutorial on a Poison Ivy look.

the outcome.....

I realise now my design flaw. I created a jumpsuit, and its not really ideal when youre drinking all day which would result in many trips to the bathroom.

Dashing in Dots

well, its been a while since i've entertained my creative side but i finally sat down and made a dress this week so i could wear it to a picnic night out with the girls. I have had some polka dot fabric residing under the guest room bed since i bought it from global fabrics a while ago. It was time to make something of it.

I used a combination of patterns ive made over time and threw them together with a bow around the neck. The dots on the fabric run from big to small along the grainline so I decided to cut the bow from the 'big dot' end to contrast with the smaller dots at the top of my dress.

Little Black Dress

A wee while ago i was asked to make a dress for my sister for her awards night. In preparation for this i decided to make myself a version of the dress when i was in the drafting stage for the pattern. I also made myself a little lace vest/top which i find is really good for adding a bit extra to some of my plain t-shirt dresses. Heres the end result.

Modelled by my younger sister, the lovely Christine Louise

Late Night Garden Adventure

As mentioned in my previous post, my stunning friend Delia modelled some dresses i made. We had lots of fun shooting the photos in the botanical gardens and around the city. This reminded me of when my sisters and i would play dress ups and make overs. Its good to know we can still have great times like these. Lots of giggles and loads of fun.

A simple and elegant dress for a big day

On Monday i had a job interview and realised that my wardrobe is a bit on the bright/floral side and didnt have anything appropriate to wear. As it was the day before the interview i decided to get cracking and make something corporate.

I raced down to a few fabric stores around town but managed to find some navy polyester (and something) fabric so it wouldnt crinkle from 'the fabric warehouse'. I had some lining at home.

I knew i wanted it to look really simple and didnt have time to scribble up a new pattern. So, i based this garment on the fit of one of my strapless floral dresses i made but incorporated some chest and shoulder cover.

To top it off my stunning friend Delia and i had a really fun night with shooting these pics. Dont mean to be captain obvious here but she looks amazing!

Big Bag, Little Bag

I decided to make a new bag as i am really indecisive when it comes to buying one. I decided that i wanted a little shoulder bag to fit the necessities for town wondering and a bigger bag for carrying the bulkier items in. Thats all i  really had in mind at the time as i usually let the fabric inspire the design.

The bigger bag is made of upholstery material as it was the only fabric i could find at the time that was durable enough for its purpose (and still colourful).

For the little bag the lace and leather idea came to me as i was wondering around the haberdashery department of spotlight and decided i wanted to soften the look of the black leather that i had bought. The zip was meant to fit across the back of the bag but due to a change in the dimensions i decided to fit it differently. I decided to add a shoulder pad to the strap for comfort.

A Dress for My Sister

The other week i recieved an email from my little sister asking for me to make her a dress for her awards night. Being the artist that she is, she drew me a picture of what she had in mind in 'paint' and attached it in the email.

We then got chatting about details and fabrics and combined our ideas.
End result.....

I Love Sleepy Time

This weekend i was lucky enough to spend some quality fabric shopping time with my very talented friend Miss Jackson. After buying some bright fabric and visiting Peter Alexander i was then ready and inspired to make myself some Pyjamas for the Summer.

Sweater Dress

Today i made a sweater dress. it is soo comfy and im planning to spend alot of time in it this summer.
It was really quick to make as i recycled a pattern that i made for a hoody a while ago.
Im not really much of an accesory queen so i put tassles on the front so i didnt have to rely on wearing a necklace to liven it up.

Oh Baby

With an increase of people i know having children, i have stumbled across the dilema of buying baby gifts. I'm always worried that i will get them something they already have or something that someone else has got for them. So, i decided to take the creative route and try making something instead. A few couples have decided not to check the gender of the baby as they want it to be a suprise on the day. with this in mind, i decided to make neutral coloured clothes so that any gender can wear them. staying away from the typical pink, blue and yellow.

Heres the first attempt. It turned out alot bigger than i expected so i'll take it back to the drawing board and create something a smaller. The fabric is made of all natural fibers which i guess will make mum and dad happy. I also didnt really like the idea of it having a zip as sometimes they can be a bit scratchy.
